New to print? Want to get back into making work? Have you done a course or taster and want to find out more?
A fantastic way to explore a variety of printmaking techniques and get a good idea of what suits your printmaking taste.
You will learn and experiment with mono screenprinting, monoprint, lino, drypoint, etching and letterpress which covers intaglio, relief and planographic techniques. The course is taught by our resident expert printmaker technicians who will share their top tips from their own unique practices.
It is a great course for beginners, those who want a refresher or those who simply want an enjoyable challenge.
Course Structure
This 6 week course will be structured as follows:
Week 1: Mono (Stencil) Screen Printing with Theo Miller
Week 2: Monoprint with Kate Da'Casto
Week 3: Linocut with Sarah Kirby
Week 4: Drypoint with Robyn Maclennan
Week 5: Etching with Robyn Maclennan
Week 6: Wooden Type Letterpress with Serena Smith
About the Tutor
Currently based in Leicester, Kate Da'Casto is a fine artist whose practice spans drawing, photography, printmaking, installation and sculpture. Her subject matter is usually about transformation, growth and the emotional resonance of the discarded.
Graduating from Fine Art from De Montfort University in 2010, Kate went on to win three prestigious awards for printmaking and her art practice and to exhibit locally and nationally. She has collaborated and exhibited as part of The Attic fine art collective and she has taught Fine Art at Leicester De Montfort University and printmaking at LPW.
Robyn Maclennan joined Leicester Print Workshop as part of the technician team at the end of 2021, having been a print fellow at the University of Northampton for 2 years. She holds a degree in Illustration and Animation from Coventry University, a Masters in Fine Art from Northampton and is currently a doctoral research student at University of the Arts London. Robyn specializes in etching and photoetching with a focus on landscape and the ecoGothic. You can find more of Robyn’s work here: www.robynmaclennan.com
Theo Miller is a visual artist and printmaker, born in Leicester. He gained a first class degree in Fine Art from De Montfort University in 2014. Miller is currently living and working in Leicester as an Artist and also as a Technician for De Montfort University.
Printmaking, for Miller is an axis, a locus. He describes the beauty of printmaking to be that the final image is always affected by, and integral to the process itself. Miller is currently focusing on letterpress, after being granted the Print Futures Award 2017.
Serena Smith is an artist, lithographer and technician at Leicester Print Workshop. Her ongoing research explores the generative intersection between lithography and language. Leicester Print Workshop
Leicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking. Established by artists in 1986, we are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England. Our RIBA award-winning building is situated in Leicester City Centre's Cultural Quarter and is home to a large, well equipped open access Printmaking Studio.
We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching people printmaking. Our programme offers the largest number and broadest range of printmaking courses in the region, with courses suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers, delivered by practicing artists and nationally renowned tutors. Participants learn in small and friendly groups in our purpose-designed studio.
