This course is a great practical introduction to colour theory and terminology. You will mix various palettes - strong and muted - making use of transparency and opacity. You will make pictures using basic printmaking materials which explore different moods - e.g. quiet, dramatic, fresh, anxious. A fantastic grounding in a fundamental skill with a very experienced and knowledgeable tutor.

Course Structure

MORNING:

Making colour studies using acrylic paint and basic printing techniques. The basics: the primary colours / hues: warmth/coolness: tonal values by dilution and white pigment.

AFTERNOON:   

Making colour studies. Saturation – mixing greys. Opacity and transparency. Make two abstract pictures expressing drama and calmness.

 

About the Tutor

Peter Clayton has a Fine Art degree and PGCE in Art Education. He has shown in over 160 solo and group exhibitions and has over 30 years experience as an Adult Education tutor at many centres of learning in Leicester.

He has collaborated with interior designers, publishers, university departments, museums and art galleries and has worked on commissions ranging from murals to book jackets. Peter works in a wide variety of media. His principle print media are linocut and silkscreen.
