Experimental Photo Screenprinting Weekend

Location Leicester Print Workshop
Date & Time Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th May
10.00am - 4.00pm
Tutor  Emma Gardner

This weekend course is designed to help you realise your work into screenprint using a whole tool-belt of techniques. You will be combining photographic images with areas of cut stencil, painted open mesh and use of crayons to explore the hand drawn mark making potential of this versatile and very popular Printmaking technique.

There will be a focus on marrying up these different compositional elements and demonstrate at least three ways that a photograph can be experimented and developed in screenprinting. You will be creating layered images and learning the art of the ‘register’ and colour theory in relation to this work.

A combination of hands on demos and opportunity to work with your own screen will give you the confidence to learn new skills or really refine any existing screenprinting experience you may already have.

This new course is a fantastic start to your screenprinting  journey and a weekend that will encourage experimentation and risk taking while giving you a solid foundation in creating, planning, making and printing your own work.

About the Tutor

Emma Gardner is an artist, printmaker and educator. She creates original artwork using collage, photography and printmaking processes.

Emma’s practice is shaped by her response to places, questioning ideas of space, concealment and transition through printmaking. Her works often evoke a sense of stillness and silence within ambiguous spaces.

Emma studied Fine Art at De Montfort University, Leicester. After graduating in 2012 she joined Leicester Print workshop to help facilitate her practice and was awarded Artist in Residence in 2015. Emma is currently teaches a diverse range of printing techniques at LPW.
