Experience Beginner
Tutor  Sue Baker Kenton

This course is a perfect opportunity to work with silkscreen techniques as you experiment with colour, develop your drawing and compositional skills and incorporate photographic images and text in your work.

Perfect for creating personal, original coursework and building an exciting portfolio of work for UCAS applications.

You will be individually supported by the tutor as you complete a series of practical tasks that build over the six weeks. Working with silkscreen throughout the course, you will be looking at: mono-screen techniques (crayons, stencils and layering), combining photographic imagery and text using photo-screen, printing onto alternative surfaces and working with mixed media. We will look at how artists have used silkscreen as a medium to appropriate images and to explore contemporary society.

By the end of the course you will be aiming to complete; a sequence of 10 final variable prints, to explore prints on non-standard substrates and generate a suite of collaborative prints. Alongside this you will have; collages, fragments and prints to develop with drawing & painting.

After completing her masters Sue received Arts Council funding, which enabled her to study Stone Lithography at the Curwen Print Studio. She was Artist-in-Residence at LPW 2012-13 and in 2016 Sue was appointed etching fellow at Royal Academy Schools. In recent years she has undertaken research trips to Crown Point Press, San Francisco, to Art Print Residence, Barcelona and has completed annual drawing residencies in Reims and Tarn since 2017. In 2021 she received Arts Council DYCP funding and in 2022 visited Frans Masereel Print Centruum, Belgium as part of their collaborative residency programme. Her work is regularly selected for open exhibitions and public collections include the Victoria & Albert Museum's Word & Image Department.
