The course centres on the construction of Islamic geometric patterns, using the simple tools of ruler and compass. You will learn how to design and create repeat patterns and to paint your designs. Through this process, attendees will explore aspects of practical geometry, the simple and elegant mathematics behind the patterns, and examples of their application in historical works. Attendees will explore eight-fold, ten-fold and twelve-fold patterns. Each session will explore a different family of patterns from a different region around the world, including Mughal, Persian and Abbassid architecture. This three-day course is suitable for those new to geometry as well as those who have some experience of it and looking to develop their geometry skills. The patterns will be different to those previously taught in the Islamic Geometry for Beginners Course. No previous experience is required.
