Join fashion designer Esther Wilson for an introduction to couture fashion techniques. Drawing from her own practice Esther will teach you how to explore a range of materials to add colour, texture and depth to a screen printed image. We will provide tote bags, screen printed in the studio to give a base for the embellishment and we will work with ribbonwork, beading and embroidery stitches to create unique and intricate designs. This course will introduce a range of stitch and embellishment techniques and you do not need any prior printing or sewing experience.
Course Structure
AM- Introduction to materials and embroidery types.- Individual planning. Looking at the examples and materials provided students will have a chance to plan their piece on paper, considering colour and dimension.LUNCHPM- Stitching! Working on the example piece Esther will provide instruction for multiple techniques, allowing students to work on their techniques and interpret the materials in their own way.The day is structured to be flexible to provide as much time for students to work as possible.What to bring.Course materials will be provided and students will also receive a ‘goody bag’ to take away to continue their projects at home. However if you have any materials, such as thread, wool, beads or scraps of fabric you wish to use, please bring them along. Personal interpretation is encouraged.If you have any inspiration photos, from fashion magazines, Pinterest or postcards, , please bring them to inspire your work and allow Esther to see what you hope to get out of the course. These can be on your phone.
Leicester Print Workshop
Leicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking. Established by artists in 1986, we are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England. Our RIBA award-winning building is situated in Leicester City Centre's Cultural Quarter and is home to a large, well equipped open access Printmaking Studio.
We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching people printmaking. Our programme offers the largest number and broadest range of printmaking courses in the region, with courses suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers, delivered by practicing artists and nationally renowned tutors. Participants learn in small and friendly groups in our purpose-designed studio.
