Tutor Sally Stephens

Bring your imagination to life and draw, print, cut and stick your imaginary beasts! You’ll learn how to print your own beastly designs using relief printing, colourful inks and rollers and get to take home large prints of your designs.

Course Structure

  • We will look at examples of relief prints and think about what features your imaginary animal might have! Also look at some images of imaginary animals.
  • You will learn how to design and construct a printing plate using textured paper glued onto a card base.
  • While the glue is drying we will be printing some animals using pre made shapes.
  • Using rollers to ink up the printing plate you will learn how to print it by hand onto A2 size paper to make a fabulous printed beast.

About the Tutor

Sally Stephens uses the intaglio processes of etching and drypoint in her practice and also some screen print. Her work frequently explores the human face and its enduring fascination. Crowds and collections of faces provide a way to think about how the individual relates to a group, and consider the connections between people. Work is also inspired by travel and encountered images, for example Greek and Roman sculpture and busy city streets.

Sally has completed an Advanced Diploma in Printmaking at Central St Martins School of Art and an M A in printmaking at Northampton University. Sally is part of the LPW tutor team and has also delivered several community projects.
