Introduction to Screen

This one-day course introduces the basic principles of screenprinting. You will learn how to transfer an image to a silkscreen and print onto A3 paper. This course is ideal for beginners with no previous experience and includes lots of hints and tips about mixing inks, selection of paper types, working cleanly and efficiently and image choices. You will learn how to print onto paper and experiment with layering colours to produce your own photographic screen prints.

• Coating screens and exposing images.
• How to mix ink for Screen.
• Cutting Paper Stencils for screen.
• Printing images with registration demonstration.

About the Tutor

Theo Miller is a visual artist and printmaker, born in Leicester. He gained a first class degree in Fine Art from De Montfort University in 2014. Miller is currently living and working in Leicester as an Artist and also as a Technician for De Montfort University.

Printmaking, for Miller is an axis, a locus. He describes the beauty of printmaking to be that the final image is always affected by, and integral to the process itself. Miller is currently focusing on letterpress, after being granted the Print Futures Award 2017.

Leicester Print Workshop 

Leicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking. Established by artists in 1986, we are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England. Our RIBA award-winning building is situated in Leicester City Centre's Cultural Quarter and is home to a large, well equipped open access Printmaking Studio.

We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching people printmaking. Our programme offers the largest number and broadest range of printmaking courses in the region, with courses suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers, delivered by practicing artists and nationally renowned tutors. Participants learn in small and friendly groups in our purpose-designed studio.
