Portraiture in Print

Portraiture in Print is a short course for anyone interested in exploring or developing their skills in portraiture using Linocut printmaking.

You will learn how to use tone and mark making to create the planes of the face and
how to add character to your portraits.

A great course for anyone looking to work with narrative images and capturing the likeness in your subject.

About the Tutor

Jonathan Costall is a Printmaker who specialises in Linocut portraits. Currently he is working on a series of portraits which combines his duel passions of art and football. The main subject of his work has been Leicester City F.C players past and present, recently he has started a second series of portraits of “Football Greats”.

He studied BA (hons) Fine Art at De Montfort University where he decided to specialise in Printmaking. After graduating he then went on to study at Wimbledon School of Art where he gained an MA in Fine Art Printmaking in 2005.

Leicester Print Workshop 

Leicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking. Established by artists in 1986, we are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England. Our RIBA award-winning building is situated in Leicester City Centre's Cultural Quarter and is home to a large, well equipped open access Printmaking Studio.

We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching people printmaking. Our programme offers the largest number and broadest range of printmaking courses in the region, with courses suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers, delivered by practicing artists and nationally renowned tutors. Participants learn in small and friendly groups in our purpose-designed studio.
