Tutor  Sumiko Eadon & Sally Stephens

An exciting new course collaboration with artists Sumiko Eadon and Sally Stephens. Expand your drawing and urban sketching skills on location in the city, working directly onto printing plates. Learn how to adapt and develop these initial sketches into unique prints using drypoint and monoprinting techniques.

A great course for translating artist sketches into printmaking - starting with exploring the city to gather drawn information as a group, you will bring these ideas and observations back to the studio and be given a wide selection of tools to realise them in direct and exploratory print works. Ideal for those wishing to free up their practice and learn ways to observe, gather and edit information.

    About the Tutors

Sumiko Eadon is an artist and printmaker based in Leicestershire. She is originally from Japan where she learned woodblock printing and wood engraving. She obtained a first class Fine Art degree as a mature student at Loughborough University in 2013.

Since graduation, she has been involved in some residencies, exhibitions and projects, and developed her portfolio through usage of digital photographic images and experimental moving image, exploring the theme of place, space, temporality and memory.

Her recent work is more drawing based and employs techniques such as photo-plate lithography and mono print. She constantly practices and experiments with different ways of working.

Using her experience of different making approaches, she aims to share the delight of creating artwork with people in the wider community.

Sally Stephens uses the intaglio processes of etching and drypoint in her practice and also some screen print. Her work frequently explores the human face and its enduring fascination.  Crowds and collections of faces provide a way to think about how the individual relates to a group, and consider the connections between people. Work is also inspired by travel and encountered images, for example Greek and Roman sculpture and busy city streets. Sally has completed an Advanced Diploma in Printmaking at Central St Martins School of Art and an M A in printmaking at Northampton University. Sally is part of the LPW tutor team and has also delivered several community projects.
