This introductory course is suitable for beginners and those experienced in linocut. You will learn how to carve and print your own pictures using traditional tools, wood and paper. Picasso called Reduction Linocut the 'Suicide Method'.
Working from one single block, learn how to cut and add colour by printing in stages, removing more from the surface of the block as you register and print in layers. No looking back!
About the Tutor
Sally Stephens is an artist educator based in Northamptonshire. She makes prints using etching, drypoint and monoprinting. She studied printmaking at Central St Martins School of Art and completed an MA at Northampton University in 2002. Sally has worked as a freelance workshop provider for over 14 years, working in a variety of settings including schools and projects involving community groups.
Course Structure
Day One

Introduction to the technique and demo.

Discussion with examples of Picasso’s technique.

Drawing three stage reduction designs and transferring to lino.

Cutting first marks and printing.
Day Two

Cutting second stage of reduction and printing.

Cutting third stage of reduction and printing.
