LPW Print Salon: Henna Tattooing

Led by local artist Safina Adam, you will be introduced to the histories and differences of natural henna and jagua techniques, and learn how to make the paste, create designs and patterns, and how to apply the patterns onto skin. Participants will practice on paper and if you're happy with your designs, pair up to apply on one another! Safina will provide a take-home worksheet for you to continue practicing at home.

Course Information

This will be a fun workshop where you will learn the basic skills to use Jagua and Henna to adorn yourself with beautiful and elegant temporary tattoos that lasts 1-2 weeks. You will learn how to take care of your Henna and Jagua to get the best stains as well as learn the most common elements in most Henna and Jagua art that can be used to adorn yourself all year round.

Course Structure

• Introduction to the workshop + Health and Safety.
• What is Henna and Jagua and How is it Made?
• Demonstration of how to hold and use a henna cone and create designs
• Practising simple shapes and lines
• Demonstrating simple designs and techniques
• Practising simple designs on paper or with one another
• Learning how to take care of your Jagua and Henna Tattoos
• Clean up

Leicester Print Workshop 

Leicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking. Established by artists in 1986, we are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England. Our RIBA award-winning building is situated in Leicester City Centre's Cultural Quarter and is home to a large, well equipped open access Printmaking Studio.

We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching people printmaking. Our programme offers the largest number and broadest range of printmaking courses in the region, with courses suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers, delivered by practicing artists and nationally renowned tutors. Participants learn in small and friendly groups in our purpose-designed studio.
