Linocut Taster

This taster will take the complete beginner through how to draw and cut an image and take a print using our relief press. A fun session for those wishing to explore this popular print technique.

About the Tutor

Sue Rowland is a professional textile artist and print maker whose work includes detailed illustrative linocuts created alongside layered textile prints embellished with machine embroidery and applique. Sue is currently working on a series of lino prints based on English folklore and countryside sayings, for an exhibition at Sam Scorer Gallery in Lincoln in the Autumn.

Sue is also well known for her large scale community and schools textile and lino print projects in the East Midlands and is part of the tutor team at Leicester Print Workshop. Recent projects include: A Myriorama for Nottinghamshire.

Course Structure

• Introduction to lino cutting techniques.

• Transfer of your design to lino.

• Cutting your lino design.

• Inking the block for printing.

• Learning to print using hand burnishing and the press.

• Possible exploration of adding colour with chine collé.
