Part of the Litho Fundraising Weekend! Join us for this artist talk with Serena Smith!

Have you ever wondered what connects the salty lagoons of prehistory, evolutionary science, the first English-Chinese dictionary and Beethoven’s late chamber music? For crossword enthusiasts the answer is ‘lithographic limestone’. In this illustrated talk Serena Smith will speak about the serendipitous history and profound significance of this beautiful material, and describe events in its 150 million year journey from geological deposit to artist’s printmaking medium.

Serena Smith is an artist, lithographer and technician at Leicester Print Workshop.  Her ongoing research explores the generative intersection between lithography and language. More about her work on stone can be found here: https://www.lboro.ac.uk/subjects/geography-environment/research/cabinet-of-curiosities/14/
